Frequent Questions

If, having volunteered for an event, and you find you are unable to attend, there is a cancellation option available up to the event closing date.

Just find the event and click on the button. The status of the event will change, and it will be marked as cancelled.

If you need to cancel nearer to the date of the event, you should telephone or email the Chief Marshal if your change of circumstances is last minute.

If you have already received your tickets for the event, or receive them after you cancel, you must return them to the Chief Marshal as soon as possible. If you have received an e-ticket, reply to the email containing the ticket(s) so that they can be cancelled electronically.

If you have volunteered for an event and wish to change the role you have volunteered for, you can.

First of all you need to cancel the event by clicking on the button. Then revolunteer for the same event, making sure that you choose the new role that you wish to volunteer for.

If as part of an upgrade you wish to undertake an assessment for an event you have volunteered for, you need to contact the Chief Marshal for that event. Contact them by phone or email as soon as you can, so that they can ensure that you are allocated the right duties on the day and that you are on a post with an appropriate assessor.

DO NOT just turn up on the day and ask for an assessment, as it is unlikely that you will get one.

Once you have tried everything and still do not know what to do, you will need to get in touch with the Chief Marshal for the specific event you have an issue with. The Chief Marshal can vary from event to event, so do please look at the event in the events calendar and make sure that you contact the correct Chief Marshal.

Events that you have volunteered for will appear as such in the main events table, showing the role you have volunteered for, like this

To see a complete list of the events that you have volunteered for, choose the “Your Account” menu option at the top of this page, then choose “Your Calendar”.

BMMC members are automatically covered under our Personal Accident Policy by (a) registering for an event either with the organising club or via our systems electronic & paper and (b) completing the sign-on form provided by the organising club.

Both Motorsport UK and BMMC insurance policies are automatically extended to all members on completion of the signing-on form provided by the organising club. This is sufficient to provide you with the relevant insurance cover.

If you are trying to volunteer for an event type that you do not have an appropriate grade for, or have never done that type of event before, you may not get a list of suitable roles to choose from. For example if you are a track marshal trying to volunteer for a sprint event or hill climb.

In this case you must choose 'Registered Marshal' from the list of options to volunteer for.

After you have volunteered for an event, you will be sent tickets so that you can gain entry to the venue. Most venues have now chosen to use electronic tickets rather than paper tickets. These will be emailed to you in the week preceding the event. Just make sure that you bring these to the venue on the day. Most venues can scan etickets on smartphones, or you may choose to print them off and bring them with you to the venue entrance.

If you have not received your etickets (or paper tickets) by the Wednesday evening preceding an event, then please contact the Chief Marshal for that event to discuss the matter.

Marshals Instructions

Signing on locations, times and timetables will be provided by the organising clubs directly. These MAY NOT be sent with your tickets (neither electronic nor paper).

Within each event there will usually be links to the website of the organising club, along with event links and documents.

More information about how each organising club will provide marshals instructionsis available on the BMMC website.

Its simple...

Find the event you want to volunteer for, and just select the role you want; incident or flag (whichever is preferred)

When your details are passed to the Chief Marshal for this event it will identify your grade, "Registered Marshal", which will inform them to allocate you a suitable role, on a suitable post.

New Members may select duties "Incident", "Flag", "Pits" or "Paddock". The information passed to the Chief Marshal will indicate you are a "Registered Marshal" and may require mentoring/training.

Check that we have your Motorsport UK number within your member details.

If not, please contact your Regional Grading Officer with this information and ask them to update your records.

How to volunteer for an event

Volunteering for an event is easy:

  1. Use the events filter at the top of the main events table to help you find the required events more easily. You can choose from category, region or venue, to only show the events of interest in the table below.
  2. To see more details about an event, click on the button in the table, and it will expand, showing you all the details of the event.
  3. If you have already volunteered for an event, the volunteer button will be replaced by the role you have chosen for that event or cancelled if you can no longer make the event. Clicking on the button will still show you the event details.
  4. To volunteer for an event, use the options (in the large blue panel) to choose the role that you wish to volunteer for, confirm your consent, then click the “volunteer for event” button. That's it.
Note: Only the roles applicable to your grades will be displayed.

Volunteering Closed

  • If you are trying to volunteer for an event where volunteering has been closed (because it is near the actual event date), you will need to contact the chief marshal to see if you can still volunteer. Dates for when an event will be closed for registration will vary depending upon the organising club.

Information Only Events

  • Some events are provided within the BMMC Volunteering system for information only, and you will not be able to volunteer online. For these types of events, additional instructions will be provided. You will usually need to contact the chief marshal to volunteer. How you volunteer for these events will vary depending upon the organising club, so please read the instructions carefully.
